The GROTRIAN piano competition developed from a regional concours to an internationally renowned competition to the highest standards. It was the basis for the German country-wide piano competition „Jugend musiziert“. Today GROTRIAN hosts in turns the regional- and the national competitions of „Jugend musiziert“ and the GROTRIAN Piano Competition. In addition to that the GROTRIAN competition for practical school training for piano teaching “Bundeswettbewerb für Schulpraktisches Klavierspiel” is held in the conservatory of Weimar every second year, a contest in which prospective music teachers measure their skills in improvisation, transposition, sight-reading and song accompaniment.
